The story behind the story

A bedtime ritual, thirty years in the making

On the nights bad dreams woke her young daughter, C.M. Harris reached for a little “dream potion,” dabbed it on her daughter's forehead, and told her a story about a Dreamkeeper who watched over sleeping children. Today the family shares the same story with her granddaughter.

The Dreamkeeper is named for her grandmother, Verna. The book is illustrated in a soft watercolor palette of twilight blues and warm gold, made for reading aloud at the end of the day.

“The potion was never really the potion. It was the love behind it.”
